Your Tax Dollars At Work, U.S. Census Edition
So I meander out to my mailbox this afternoon, and what should I discover but a letter from the U.S. Census. Hmm, feels mighty thin, I say to myself. So I open up the envelope and out drops this letter:
The Census has sent me a letter telling me that they’re going to send me a letter. Brilliant!
I’m having a difficult time deciding if this letter is:
- Supposed to be helpful or informative in some way.
- A joke.
- Some sort of Obama stimulus plan for the postal workers
- My imagination.
I’m betting on option 3.
I think the gubmint probably figures that us rubes out here in the hinterlands will just say to ourselves “hey, it’s just funny money – the U.S. Census is a gubmint entity, and the USPS is kinda sorta part of the gubmint, too, so it probably didn’t cost them anything” Well, except for the time that the mail dudette had to spend sticking all those envelopes in mail boxes and the gas it took to run the mail truck, the trees they had to kill for all of those letters and envelopes, etc.
I suppose the environmental aspects of this never occurred to anyone. A letter, telling me I’m going to get a letter. I hope the enviro-wackos are having fun with this.
I think I’ll send them a letter telling them I got their letter about their letter.
This accurately reflects my attitude about winter
Global warming in the UK – not
This is amazing:

If Algore showed up in London today, they’d probably boot him out of the country permanently.
Cue the liberal head explosions – Man-made CO2 doesn’t stay in the atmosphere
The parade of bad news for the climate cultists continues. Science Daily reports that:
Most of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but is instead absorbed by the oceans and terrestrial ecosystems. In fact, only about 45 percent of emitted carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere.
In contradiction to some recent studies, he finds that the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide has not increased either during the past 150 years or during the most recent five decades.
God’s creation is perfectly capable of handling anything we throw at it. The enviro-wackos’ temerity about the impact of humans on a world as complex as Earth is stunning.
Sir, put your hands in the air and step away from the guitar
Two stories in this mornings papers clearly demonstrate where the priorities of the Obama administration lie. First, the Washington Times reports that enforcement against illegal aliens in the workplace has dropped dramatically – arrests are down 50% from last year.
Arrests of illegal immigrant workers have dropped precipitously under President Obama, according to figures released Wednesday.
Criminal arrests, administrative arrests, indictments and convictions of illegal immigrants at work sites all fell by more than 50 percent from fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2009.
The figures show that Mr. Obama has made good on his pledge to shift enforcement away from going after illegal immigrant workers themselves – but at the expense of Americans’ jobs, said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the Republican who compiled the numbers from the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).
Yet the government seems to have the time to conduct raids on guitar manufacturer Gibson over their alleged use of “endangered woods”
An international crackdown on the use of endangered woods from the world’s rain forests to make musical instruments bubbled over to Music City on Tuesday with a federal raid on Gibson Guitar ’s manufacturing plant, but no arrests.
Agents of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service made a midday appearance and served a search warrant on company officials at Gibson’s Massman Drive manufacturing plant, where it makes acoustic and electric guitars.
What does this say about the strategy of this administration: drop the enforcement of immigration laws – enforcement that can preserve American jobs – and pick on companies like Gibson who still maintain manufacturing in the United States? This same “strategy” is demonstrated in their love for cap-and-trade – pursue policies that are damaging to American business and jobs in order to save trees. Environmentalism over jobs. The priorities of Barack Obama are crystal clear.
Oh wait – is that Barack in the background?
